Who should attend?
All certified food and beverage handlers whom are currently working in handling and preparing food and beverage in NEA-licensed food establishment as per the above regulatory requirement.
Pre-requisite for taking the Refresher Food Hygiene Course
Copy of the Basic Food Hygiene Course certificate awarded by any ONE of the following:
- Singapore Workforce Development Agency under the WSQ framework.
- National Environment Agency (NEA)
- Ministry of the Environment
- WSQ FB-RM-303E-0 Conduct F&B Hygiene Audit Course (Conduct F&B Hygiene Audit Course)
Note: NEA continues to recognize Refresher Food Hygiene Course certificate awarded by the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) form Oct 2010 to Jun 2014.
The NEA has reviewed the current refresher course, and has worked with WDA to introduce the WSQ Refresher Food Hygiene Course which will commence in October 2014.
Certified food handlers are required to undergo the WSQ Refresher Food Hygiene Course 5 years after expiration of the basic food hygiene course and every 10 years thereafter, to ensure that they still observe good food hygiene practices and are kept up-to-date on NEA’s policies and the best practices in handling food.
Food handlers who have passed the Basic Food Hygiene Course 5 years or more ago are required to undergo the compulsory Refresher Food Hygiene Course. The course comprises of 3 hours of training and 1.5 hours of assessment (MCQ + Oral Questioning + Practical). Food handlers can also just go through Assessment Only, which is recommended for those who are sufficiently experienced. Food handlers who pass the assessment will receive a WDA Statement of Attainment (SOA), of which they will need to show proof during regular inspections by NEA officers.
Licencees who engage any food handlers without valid SOAs could be given 6 demerit points for each uncertified food handler.
Learning Objective
To equip participants with the knowledge and understanding on the importance of Food hygiene and safety while preparing or handling food.
Course Outline
Upon completion of this module, the trainee will have the knowledge and application skills with practising food and beverage safety and hygiene policies and procedures and be able to apply them to the workplace. This includes:
- Practising good personal hygiene
- Using safe ingredients
- Handling food safely
- Storing food safely
- Maintaining cleanliness of utensils, equipment and service/storage areas
Course Duration 4.5 hours
Half day – 09.30am to 2.00pm
(One short breaks in between – light refreshment provided)
– 3 hours training
Classroom sitting
-1.5 hours for assessment
25 MCQ – 50 mins
Oral Question – 15mins
Practical – 25 mins
Assessment
MCQ and Oral coupled with a Competency-Based Practical Assessment will be conducted on the same day
Certification
Upon successful completion of the programme, candidates will receive the WSQ Follow Food & Beverage Hygiene and Safety Policies & Procedures Statement of Attainment (SOA) issued by Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA)
Course Fee
Based on No-claim from training grant/ Foreigner without subsidy:
Nett course fee @ S$80.00 each.
Funding Support from SkillsConnect
Based on approval of claim from training grant:-
- Local and SPR participants – Published Rate @S$80.00 nett, before subsidy, amount subjected to allocate by WDA vary from $56.00 up to $76.00. Payment by Cheque only for subsidy participants and payable to ‘Skillmaster Training Centre Pte Ltd’. You need to login to www.skillsconnect.gov.sg to apply for training grant before the course start date.
Corporate Clientele
Minimum of 20 paxs can be arranged to conduct the training at your requested venue (Training site equipped with basic kitchen facility)
