1. What is SkillsFuture Singapore Agency (SSG) Funding

SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) aims to promote a culture and holistic system of lifelong learning through the pursuit of skills mastery, and strengthen the ecosystem of quality education and training in Singapore. In collaboration with various industries, SSG has developed the Singapore Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ), a national credentialing system that is organised by industry sectoral frameworks, and is used to train, develop, assess and recognise individuals for the key competencies that companies look for in potential employees.

  1. What are the eligibility criteria?

Please ensure that the trainee meets the following criteria before you proceed to apply for training grant:

  • Trainee must be a Singapore Citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident
  • Trainee must be aged 21 years and above*
  • Trainee must be self-sponsored, i.e. paid for all necessary training expenses to the training organisation
  • Trainee is attending your training course. Your course must be a SSG-supported certifiable skills training course on nett fee payment mode

* 13 years old and above for persons with disabilities (PWDs) who qualify under the Workfare Training Support (WTS) Scheme.

 

  1. What do I need for the application?

(SKILLMASTER will apply on behalf for individuals)

Before applying, please ensure that you have records for the following:

  • Course title
  • Course start and end dates
  • Course duration and fee components
  • Trainee details (name, NRIC, citizenship, date of birth, education qualification, employment status, fixed monthly salary)

 

  1. Which course is for me? Basic or refresher?

Basic Food Hygiene is for first time food handler to work in food stalls, hawkers, restaurants, etc.

After 5 years, if you are still actively working as a food handler, you must take a refresher course. After which, you must take another refresher 10 years later.

 

  1. How to register?

Click on “Class SCHEDULE “choose the language and date that you preferred, click on the class and register. No payment needed at this point. All payment will be made before the class start. Please come at least 15 mins before the class starts and verify with NRIC / Work Permit / Passport.

 

  1. How much is the course fee for Basic Food Hygiene Course?

It is $150.00 nett (GST not applicable).

Singaporean and Permanent Resident (PR) can apply for training grant.

 

  1. How much is the course fee for REFRESHER Food Hygiene Course?

It is $80.00 nett (GST not applicable).

  1. What is Workfare Training Support (WTS)?

The Workfare Training Scheme (WTS) encourages low wage workers to upgrade their skills through training, so that they can improve their employability and upgrade to better jobs. WTS is open to Singaporeans who meet eligible criteria.
Through WTS, low wage workers can benefit from higher course fee support when they sign up for any Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) courses at a Continuing Education and Training (CET) Centre.

WTS Eligibility Criteria
ALL specified criteria must be met in order to enjoy stated funding rates.
To be eligible, individuals must meet the following criteria:
• Be a Singapore Citizen;
• Be a Workfare Income Supplement (WIS) recipient (proof of eligibility status is required);
• Be aged 35 & above;
• Have a monthly income of not more than $2.000; and
• Have signed up for a WTS qualifying courses.

 

 

  1. When can I get my Certificates / Statement of Attainment (SOA)?

Students will get a “Competent Letter” at the end of the class if he/she cleared all the MCQ, Oral & Practical assessments. After 2 weeks, you can download and print it from www.skillsconnect.gov.sg or you can come back to our SMTC during office hours. Please avoid lunch time from 12.00pm to 2.00pm.

The first issue of SOA is free, subsequent print/copy will charged at $20.00 each.

WSQ Electronic Certificates (e-Certs)

From 3 November 2014 onwards, electronic certificates (e-Certs) will be issued to trainees who have attended and attained competency in Singapore Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) training modules or have attained full WSQ qualifications.

The e-Certs will replace the current hardcopy certificate issuance process and benefit the following users:

  • Trainees – receive notification via email and/or SMS to download e-Certs within two working days upon submission of results by the training organisations and 15 working days for Qualifications or Transcripts following an email request by the training organisations. (Currently, the average waiting time for trainees to receive a hardcopy of their WSQ certificates is three months after the assessments). The e-Certs will be available in the SkillsConnect account of trainees. This will allow you to search and download your e-Certs at your convenience. Trainees will no longer need to be concerned about safekeeping their hardcopy certificates.
  • SSG Approved Training Organisations (ATOs) – less manpower and operational costs required to print and coordinate the delivery of hardcopy certificates to trainees.
  • Employers – able to verify the authenticity of the e-Certs from potential employees conveniently online here.
